Hope is foundational to faith. Hebrews 11:1 states: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see”. Hope, as we see in scripture, is not simply a desire for something good, a gamble, or a fleeing feeling, but a confident trust and expectation of The Lord to do all of the things that He said He would in His word. In the midst of even the most challenging times, hope always remains because the God of Hope is always with us (Roman’s 15:13). God’s plan for us is to give us a future and hope in Him through the salvation that Jesus provides. In faith, we can trust that God will certainly fulfill all of His promises to us. It is confidence in His character and faithfulness that gives us hope to keep going and to be patient even when times get hard (Psalm 42:5-6). We have a living hope in Jesus and because of this hope we can have full confidence that Jesus will comfort us, strengthen us, and give us all that we need to fully and faithfully finish the race.
As the psalmist told his own soul to “Hope in God” we wear this as a proclamation to ourselves and others of the living hope that we have in our life-giving Savior.
